POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:TORQUE CONVERTER11/06/2018

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Ford Edge and 2017 Lincoln MKZ vehicles. On vehicles with 2.0L gas engines and six-speed automatic transmissions, the torque converter weld studs may have been inadequately welded.

Risk: If the torque converter weld studs fail, the torque converter will not be connected to the engine flexplate and the vehicle will lose the ability to move, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque converters, free of charge. The recall began on July 5, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17S16 (S2). Note: This recall is an expansion of recall 17V-427.

🔍 Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist

Based on 933 owner complaints for this specific year, here's what to check or ask about:

  • ENGINE: THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE SO WEAK THAT WHEN THE ROAD IS WET AT NIGHT OR WHEN DRIVING NEAR AMBIENT LIGHTING SUCH AS STREET LIGHTS YOU CAN'T SEE ANY MARKINGS ON THE ROAD SUCH AS THE CENTERLINE OF THE ROAD. THERE IS ALSO EXHAUST FUMES COMING INTO THE CAR WHEN DRIVING WITH THE WINDOWS UP OR SLIGHTL

Typically appears around 50K miles. Repair cost ~$500

  • TRANSMISSION: THE FRONT AXLE, (KNOWN AS THE HALF SHAFT) BLEW OUT ALL THE GREASE IN THE RUBBER BOOT. THE INSIDE FRONT , DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE, SUSPENSION AND BRAKES WERE COVERED WITH GREASE. CAME FROM THE DEALERSHIP LIKE THIS, AUTO HAD 42 MILES AT TIME THIS WAS NOTICED.

Typically appears around 50K miles. Repair cost ~$500

  • OTHER: RADIO WAS NOT PICKING UP LOCAL STATIONS. NEW ANTENNA ASSEMBLY WAS INSTALLED. STILL HAVE WEAK RADIO RECEPTION ON A FEW LOCAL STATIONS.

Typically appears around 50K miles. Repair cost ~$500

  • BRAKES: BRAKES ARE TOO SENSITIVE (GRABBING) AT LOW SPEED, ESPECIALLY AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT. A VERY SLIGHT TOUCH OF THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL CAUSE THE CAR TO IMMEDIATELY STOP AND ANYONE IN THE CAR WILL SLIDE FORWARD IN THEIR SEAT IF NOT OUT OF THE SEAT. THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH BOTH MYSELF AND MY WIFE DRIVING

Typically appears around 50K miles. Repair cost ~$500
